Lake City Ice Park

Colorado Ice Climbing in the San Juan Mountains

Just one block south of historic downtown Lake City, Colorado, is the Lake City Ice Park, a favorite among ice climbers who prefer small crowds, stellar routes, and a casual, fun atmosphere. Climbs are free, but donations help support the operation of the park.

The Lake City Ice Park has three ice climbing areas, Pumphouse Park, Beer Garden, and Dynamite Shack, with more than 75 routes between the parks with mixed grades WI3 and up. These three sections of the Lake City Ice Park offer climbs great for beginners or more challenging for those looking for an extra pump.

The Lake City Ice Park clings to the cliffs above Henson Creek at the south edge of town (Bluff Street to County Road 20). Pumphouse Park has approximately 15+ routes with 60 to 100+ foot pitches with mixed grades WI-3 and up. The 800 ft wide Beer Garden is located .25 miles up County Road 20 and contains up to 30 routes with 70 to 110+ foot pitches. The newest addition, Dynamite Shack, offers 35 routes with 170+ foot pitches.

The Lake City Ice Park is open from November to March, weather permitting, is family (and canine) friendly, and has a fire pits and warming huts. The Lake City Ice Park is climb at your own risk.
